21 Mar 2024 Food and Agriculture Organization/Global Environment Facility (FAO)/(GEF) Implementation of the National Biosafety Mechanism in the Kyrgyz Republic in accordance with the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety

The project goal is therefore to support the establishment at the national level of a comprehensive and effective regulatory framework on biosafety in accordance with the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety and to create technical capacity for the implementation and enforcement of the Protocol at the national level. Project objectives are to provide technical guidance and assistance for the implementation of the regulatory framework on biosafety at the national level, including the establishment of administrative systems and institutional arrangements, such as laboratories for LMO detection and human resource capacities. The GEF-funded alternative will enable the achievement of the project goal and objectives through the following three interlinked project components: (1) Development and operationalization of biosafety policy, regulatory and institutional framework; (2) Development of national capacity for the operationalization of biosafety measures in compliance with the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety; and (3) Knowledge sharing process.
